Description 
Six historic houses in Clackamas County, Oregon, pictures taken by the Federal Writers Project in the late 1930s. #1 - Rose Farm (Holmes House), Mount Pleasant, Oregon City. Only the McLoughlin House was more important..Built in 1848 for William Livingstone Holmes. National Register, added 1974. #2-4 - Seth Luelling house, Milwaukie, also known as the Kellogg house, erected in 1855. Seth Luelling followed his brother Henderson to Oregon and joined him in the nursery business. #5 - Old McNary house (photo courtesy of Minerva Therring Oatfield). No information found. #6 - Ainsworth Mansion, Oregon City, built in 1851 for Captain John C. Ainsworth. Ainsworth operated a steamboat line on the Willamette and Columbia Rivers, and later was head of the O.W.R.& N. Company, now the Union Pacific. National Register, 1973. #7-12 -- Locust Farm, also known as McCarver House or Lawton Place. Erected in 1850 by General M. McCarver. His outstanding claim to fame is that he was co-founder of Burlington, Iowa, Sacramento, Calif. and Linnton, Oregon (now part of Portland). Locust Farm was located on the old Canemah-Salem road half a mile from Oregon City. National Register, 1974. #13 - Warner House, Oregon City. Built by Arthur E. Warner on his donation land claim in 1855. It was located south of Oregon City about a mile southeast of Mount Pleasant School. The house was still occupied by the Warner family when this photo was taken in ca. 1937 or 1938. It is not known whether the house survives.
